The Power of Equus 24" x 20" Acrylic Painting 1.5" Gallery Wrapped Canvas |
People often ask me how I developed my style of painting. It was actually inspired by two cubist paintings that gave me such a desire to see what I could do with horses that I drove home and immediately began drawing the horses in motion to see how their muscles would interact in a "modern cubist" or geometric style.
The Power of Equus was inspired by a powerful prancing Andalusian horse. I love the grace and power of Andalusions. You can really see a sense of controlled power with their thick muscular necks tucked with elegance...a clue to the containment of explosive energy. I decided to play with a cool color palette with warm colors in the background for added tension.
The fiery background vs. the cool shadows and water in an attempt gain balance.
